Bawali – A treasure trove, just 30 kms from Kolkata
The village of Bawali just 21 kms from Taratola in Kolkata is mostly known for its 300-year-old Bawali Rajbari (palace). But, the surrounding villages and townships like Achipur, Burul and Budge Budge are steeped in history too. Achipur has a Chinese temple and the tomb of Tong Achi – the pioneer to start a sugar factory in Bengal. Burul bird sanctuary and the famous Barood Ghar (gunpowder storehouses) of the British can also be seen here. The farmhouse at Bawali is another great place to spend your weekend. Four ethnic cottages spread across 08 bighas of land, Bawali Farmhouse is graced by few ponds, a play area, too many gardens, a ngo school, a flower nursery, a meeting space and lots of greenery.
